About Us

NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia is the political and policy leader of the pro-choice movement in Virginia.

Our mission is to develop and sustain a constituency that uses the state-level political process in Virginia to guarantee every woman the right to make personal decisions regarding the full range of reproductive choices, including preventing unintended pregnancy, bearing healthy children, and choosing legal abortion. We work to educate Virginians and policymakers about the broad range of issues encompassing reproductive choice and lobby our legislature to pass pro-choice policies and defeat anti-choice laws. We provide Virginians with information on policymakers' voting records on reproductive rights issues and encourage them to vote pro-choice in state elections to elect more lawmakers who share our values.

An independent affiliate of the national NARAL Pro-Choice America organization, NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia works at the state level to fight for rights and access to abortion, birth control and sex education; support the full range of reproductive decisions; and protect reproductive health for all Virginians regardless of race, income, age, gender identity, or sexual orientation.

NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia is a grassroots 501(c)(4) advocacy and activism organization (federal tax ID #41-2051991).  We are supported by thousands of dedicated members, volunteers and activists throughout the Commonwealth. Along with our main organization, NPCV has two sister entities, the NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia Foundation and the NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia PAC (see below).

NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia Foundation

The NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia Foundation is the research, education and outreach arm of our organizations. NPCVF's mission is to support and protect, as a fundamental freedom, Virginians' ability to make the full range of personal decisions about their reproductive choices and health. We accomplish this through proactive issue education, research and outreach initiatives, training programs, and public policy efforts.

NPCVF's programs address barriers that keep Virginians from accessing the full range of reproductive health information, healthcare services and choices, particularly in areas that disproportionally affect underserved communities. We work on issues including comprehensive sex education, access to reproductive healthcare services, access to birth control and emergency contraception, and ensuring that Virginia's women can get medically-accurate information and support regarding reproductive decisions.

NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia PAC


The NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia Political Action Committee directly supports 100% pro-choice candidates for statewide office and General Assembly in Virginia through financial contributions and independent election work. With NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia's experience on the ground in Richmond advocating for pro-choice policies and against anti-choice attacks, we understand the importance of pro-choice legislators and work strategically to protect and elect the lawmakers we need most to make a difference.
 
Our PAC researches, interviews and endorses candidates, and educates voters on a candidate's position on choice before and after she or he becomes an elected representative. We make financial contributions to pro-choice candidates in key races and engage in independent direct voter contact with the goal of getting out the pro-choice vote and creating a pro-choice majority in Richmond.
