Position: NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia seeks to fill an internship position for Spring 2009. The intern will work closely with the Deputy Director to implement the policy and organizing goals of the organization during the 2009 state legislative session, and will assist in preliminary planning for the 2009 election cycle after the session. Duties: Legislative Work § Assist Deputy Director in tracking all pending legislation affecting reproductive rights during the 2009 state legislative session. § Attend legislative hearings in Richmond as time and interest allows. Policy Research § Assist NPCV lobbyist with policy research on reproductive rights issues. § Draft fact sheets on pending legislation for the NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia website. Grassroots Organizing § Recruit, train and mobilize volunteers to support or oppose bills during legislative session. § Oversee phone banks to garner support or opposition for bills as needed. § Organize trainings for activists on how to talk about reproductive rights issues. § Recruit attendees for the Virginia Pro-Choice Coalition’s annual Lobby Day in Richmond. § Draft text for email and web campaigns to alert NARAL members about upcoming votes and urge them to contact their legislators to support or oppose bills. Administration § Process direct mail and website donations and ensure their entry into donor database. § Assist the Executive Director in processing donor acknowledgments.
