Lauren's Story

Posted: 02/02/2005

On October 10, 2004, I was raped. It was someone I knew & trusted. After the incident, I was very sick, and it was getting progressively worse. At first I attributed it to stress, but it became so severe, I knew something was wrong. I went to the doctor, only to find out I was pregnant as a result of the rape. Emotions aside, physically I would not have been able to carry the child to term.

So, a week later, I terminated the pregnancy. I encountered protestors at the clinic, and they did not understand my situation. It is so important that women have this available to them. Being raped is traumatic enough, but if we lose our right to choose, an already horrible situation becomes so much more severe. This is one of the few resources we have available to us, it cannot be taken away.
