When and where to vote:

  • Primary Election Day is Tuesday, June 13. General Election Day 2017 will be Tuesday, November 7.
  • Polling places in Virginia are open on Election Days from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. As long as you're in line at the polling place before 7:00 p.m., you have the right to vote.
  • To get polling place information and see what will be on your ballot, visit the "My Information" page of the Virginia Department of Elections website.

Voting Absentee:

Voter ID requirements:

  • As of 2014, Virginia voters are required to present photo identification, but there are many types of acceptable ID. Be sure you understand Virginia's voter identification requirements.
    • Accepted forms of identification (you only need one!): a valid Virginia driver's license or any Federal, Virginia state or local government-issued photo ID; a valid passport; an employer-issued photo ID card; a valid student photo ID card from a Virginia college or university; or a Virginia Voter Photo ID Card
  • Any registered voter who does not possess one of the above mentioned forms of photo ID, may apply for a free Virginia Voter Photo Identification from any local general registrarís office in the Commonwealth.
  • If you don't bring an acceptable form of identification with you to your polling place, you will have to cast a provisional ballot and will have to deliver proof of your identity to your local election board before your vote will be counted -- so to make sure your vote will count, don't forget a form of ID!
