NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia Leadership & Advocacy Summit:
"Protecting Choice through Inclusive Advocacy"
George Mason University, Fairfax
Sunday, September 17th, 2017
10a - 4p
Everyone should be able to lead safe, healthy, and self-determined lives -- regardless of their race, ethnicity, immigrant status, faith, sexual orientation, or gender identity. But in recent years, we've seen an explosion of anti-choice attacks here at home and across the country. In the past ten years, anti-choice politicians have introduced over 80 separate pieces of legislation aimed at restricting our right to reproductive health care and bodily autonomy. Governor McAuliffe has vetoed more dangerous, extreme bills than any other governor in Virginia's history, which just goes to show how much is at stake in our Commonwealth!
We know that our voices are most impactful when we work together, and particularly when we center the unique experiences of people who are often left at the margins-- people of color, LGBTQ and immigrant communities, and others. Just this summer, we saw how powerful activism can be when disability advocates demonstrated at the US Capitol in opposition to Trumpcare and made national headlines.
Join NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia on Sunday, September 17th as we explore how to center interesectional identities in the movement for reproductive rights, health, and justice. We'll dive into the history of the reproductive justice movement and the unique barriers to access different communities face, and we'll give you the hands-on practice you need to become a strong pro-choice advocate, whether you're new to the movement or a veteran of the resistance.
The day-long training will include lunch, snacks, and giveaways. Each summit participant will leave the training as an official NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia Choice Ambassadorócomplete with a certificate of graduation and the continuing support of our staff and volunteers.
