Pro-Choice Day of Action

Join NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia and the Virginia Pro-Choice Coalition in a location close to you on February 23 for our statewide Pro-Choice Day of Action -- or participate from home in this virtual lobby day!

Newly emboldened anti-choice lawmakers in Virginia are intent on attacking abortion rights and access in the Commonwealth, as well as attacking birth control and comprehensive sex education. There are several egregious bills moving through the General Assembly this session that NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia is fighting back against every day on the ground in Richmond.

We know Virginians are opposed to these attacks on women's rights and health. To truly make an impact, we need as many pro-choice Virginians as possible from across the Commonwealth to get involved and make sure our message continues to be heard loud and clear by lawmakers and the media.

That's why NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia and our partner organizations invite you to join us for a statewide Day of Action on Thursday, February 23rd!

On our coalition's statewide Pro-Choice Day of Action, you'll be able to join us in person at activism events in Richmond, Virginia Beach, Roanoke or Northern Virginia, or participate from home in a virtual lobby day:

  • Learn about the issues we are facing and how to be an effective advocate on them
  • Write a letter-to-the-editor to your local paper
  • Participate in local pro-choice "honk and waves"
  • Host or attend a letter writing party to send notes to legislators

**If you're in Richmond, join our the Pro-Choice Day of Action honk-and-wave visibility rally from 11:15am to 12:00pm on 9th St south of Broad St, across the street from the General Assembly Building.**

Ways to take action from home and online:

  • Contact your Delegate, state Senator and Governor McDonnell and ask them to stop anti-choice legislation this session -- by writing a email by calling their office. Find your legislators' contact info here and Gov. McDonnell's contact info here.
  • Share articles or action opportunities on Facebook, Twitter, blogs, etc to publicize these issues and let politicians and the media know we are watching. (Use hashtags #ProChoiceVA or #VaDoA2012)
  • Submit a picture, statement or both to the Virginia Pro-Choice Coalition Tumblr telling us why you're taking action, why these attacks on women's rights & health are unacceptable, and why reproductive freedom is so important.

Sign up for in-person regional events at one of the links above... or get ready to take action from wherever you are on Thursday! You can participate by emailing or calling the offices of your legislators and Governor McDonnell, writing a letter to the editor of your local paper, posting information on social media or a blog, or just educating your friends and neighbors about what's happening with reproductive rights in Richmond this year.

We'll be updating our website and blog this week with more links to take action, information to share, and other ways get involved. You can join our Choice Action Network email list, like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter or check our blog to get the latest information.
