Special Guest Speakers: Two national leaders on reproductive rights and health

Congresswoman Louise M. Slaughter (D, NY-25) is the co-chair of the Congressional Pro-Choice Caucus and has been a champion for women’s rights and health care throughout her 14 terms representing New York in the U.S. House of Representatives. Most recently, she introduced the Military Access to Reproductive Care and Health (MARCH) Act to give servicewomen the same access to safe, legal abortion care as civilians. In 2012, she fought successfully for the "Shaheen Amendment” to allow military women who become pregnant as the result of rape or incest to have insurance coverage for abortion care.

Congresswoman Gwen Moore (D, WI-4) serves on the prestigious Financial Services and Budget Committees and is the DCCC Tribal Co-Chair. Congresswoman Moore has been a leader on the issues of women's rights and health, health insurance reform, preventing domestic violence and fighting for civil rights for all Americans. She has spoken out powerfully against anti-choice attacks that target women of color and advocated for reproductive justice for low-income families, receiving an "Everyday Hero" award from NARAL Pro-Choice America in 2006 for her years in public office, including her work as a state Senator in Wisconsin to require insurance companies to cover prescription contraceptives. At her election in 2004, she became the first African American woman to represent Wisconsin in the U.S. Congress.

2013 Power of Choice Award Honorees:
"The Aggie Wolf Defender of Choice Award":  Dr. Karen Remley, former Virginia Health Commissioner under Governors Kaine and McDonnell who resigned in fall 2012 citing Governor McDonnell and Attorney General Cuccinelli's politicized regulatory process to impose targeted restrictions on first-trimester abortion providers

"The Outstanding Advocate for Choice Award": Rosemary Codding, director of the Falls Church Healthcare Center and a long-time advocate with policymakers and the media for Virginians' reproductive rights and comprehensive reproductive health care access
