Power of Choice 2015

Thursday, May 28, 2015, 7:00 p.m.
CEB Waterview Conference Center

1919 N. Lynn Street, Arlington, VA 22209
(near Rosslyn Metrorail station)

Join us at our fifth annual signature event celebrating our work to protect and advance reproductive freedom in Virginia!
We’ll be recognizing the power and importance of reproductive rights and health care access, celebrating our recent achievements, and kicking off our fight to elect and protect pro-choice state lawmakers during this critical General Assembly election year.

Enjoy a cocktail reception with the Waterview Conference Center's stunning views of the Potomac, hear from our special guests and join us in honoring our annual award recipients, and bid in a silent auction, all while enjoying the company of your fellow pro-choice Virginians and political leaders!

Special Guest Speaker

Virginia Lieutenant Governor Ralph S. Northam

The Aggie Wolf Defender of Choice Award honoree: Delegate Patrick A. Hope

In his five years representing Arlington, Delegate Hope has stood up for reproductive rights and justice in the anti-choice House of Delegates, particularly as a member of the Committee for Courts of Justice and Committee on Health, Welfare, and Institutions. During the 2015 session, he led on a successful budget amendment to compensate victims of Virginia’s program of forced sterilization between 1924-1979. He also introduced HB 2287, the "Bad Bosses Bill,” to prohibit an employer from discriminating against employees for their reproductive health care decisions. In past years, he has introduced legislation to repeal targeted regulation of abortion providers (TRAP). Delegate Hope has also been a leader in ongoing work to end the unnecessary shackling of pregnant and birthing inmates in Virginia prisons.

The Outstanding Advocate for Choice Award honoree: Wendy S. Klein, MD, MACP

A Richmond-based physician and women’s health expert, Dr. Klein is a dedicated and outspoken advocate for reproductive rights and health care access. She has frequently testified and provided official public comment to Virginia General Assembly committees, the state Board of Health, and other policymakers. She advises NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia and other advocates, and has mobilized Virginia medical professionals to speak out against politically-motivated targeted regulations on abortion providers (TRAP). Dr. Klein is Associate Professor Emeritus of Internal Medicine and Obstetrics & Gynecology at the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine, a co-founder of the VCU Institute for Women’s Health, and founding past president of VCU Women in Science, Dentistry & Medicine (WISDM).

Plus, bid in our silent auction with items including vacation home stays in Cape Cod, the Virgin Islands, and the Dominican Republic; handmade jewelry and art; spa and massage packages; Virginia winery packages, and more!
