Anti-Choice "TRAP"

Proposed targeted regulations on abortion providers (TRAP) in Virginia would be the most onerous in the country. They could force women's health centers to close and serve as a backdoor ban on choice.

Anti-choice legislators are wasting no time getting ready to try and undercut women's rights in Virginia in 2012!

Rather than focus on pressing issues like the economy, education and transportation, the very first bill pre-filed for 2012's General Assembly session threatens Virginia women's access to safe, legal abortion and birth control!

Anti-choice Delegate Bob Marshall, R-Prince William, filed H.B.1, which would grant "personhood” status to fertilized eggs. As our executive director, Tarina Keene told the Washington Post, H.B.1 would "outlaw abortion and could ban common forms of birth control.”

If this bill looks familiar, it is because voters in Mississippi just rejected a similar ballot measure in their state. Plus, Del. Marshall has tried to pass a bill granting "personhood” status to zygotes for the past several years. Last year, for the first time, the bill was passed by the House of Delegates before being defeated in the state Senate.

With the anti-choice victories this past November, we have our work cut out for us in defeating this far-reaching extreme legislation next year. That's where you come in.

Become a part of our Legislative Rapid Response Team to help stop this dangerous bill. Email us today at info@naralva.org and we'll give you more details on how you can get involved.

By becoming a part of our online, grassroots Legislative Rapid Response Team, you will help NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia lobby our legislators and reach out to pro-choice Virginians at a moment's notice!

  • Spread the word about choice to your friends and neighbors

We will be on the ground in Richmond all session long, and will need your help more than ever before to raise the pro-choice voice across the state. Email info@naralva.org to sign up for the Legislative Rapid Response Team today and help us stop dangerous legislation like H.B.1 next year.
