Follow legislation in 2012 General Assembly session and contact your legislators
Please contact your legislators today to urge them to oppose anti-choice attacks in Virginia.
You can see all the legislation we are tracking this session at our Legislation to Watch page. Among the anti-choice bills is H.B. 1, a "personhood” measure, which would grant rights to fertilized eggs and lay the legal groundwork for completely banning abortion and attacking certain forms of birth control in our state. This is like the personhood ballot measure that voters in Mississippi overwhelmingly rejected last year.
Anti-choice lawmakers are pushing measures to require women to undergo an ultrasound before an abortion, whether or not a doctor recommends it or a woman wants it, replacing medical decision-making with an ideological agenda and adding to the financial and time costs to have an abortion.
They've also introduced a bill to take away health care funding for low-income women who need an abortion because of severe fetal anomalies, and a ban to prohibit Virginia women from purchasing health insurance that includes coverage for abortion care, even with their own private dollars.
We cannot let our politicians attack women’s right to privacy and restrict access to reproductive-health care. Let your legislators know that you will hold them accountable.
Join us in urging your Virginia state representatives to oppose egregious anti-choice attacks today!
