The 2012 General Assembly session has begun and it's shaping up to be one of the most challenging sessions for reproductive choice in recent years.
The General Assembly session always moves quickly. For that reason, we have several resources to help make sense of what is happening in Richmond and how you can get involved:
- Contact your legislators and urge them to oppose the wave of anti-choice bills introduced this session.
- Visit our "Personhood" page to learn about HB 1, which could ban many forms of birth control and outlaw abortion
Anti-choice politicians who campaigned on jobs, transportation and education are instead pursuing an extreme agenda that would:
- Grant "personhood" right to zygotes, effectively outlawing abortion and many forms of birth control
- Remove the ability of low-income women to pay for necessary abortion in tragic cases of fetal abnormality
- Completely eliminate vital funding for teen pregnancy prevention efforts
And these are just the attacks that are currently filed as bills this session.
NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia and our allies will be working hard through this 60-day session to protect the rights of Virginia women and families. Contact us to get involved today or for more information.
