We did it!
On November 6 thousands of Virginians went to the polls and sent a clear message:
Politicians have no place in women’s personal, private decisions!
NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia members and activists worked hard to elect pro-choice candidates throughout the state. Take a look at what we accomplished:
ü Provided message training and tools to House of Delegates candidates in five districts;
ü Made 1440 phone calls to pro-choice voters;
ü Sent 3500 Get Out the Vote postcards to pro-choice voters;
ü Sent 3560 letters featuring our endorsement of 58 candidates to NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia members statewide; and
ü Sent 1652 emails to NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia Choice Action Network members reminding them to vote November 6th.
As a result, we not only gained pro-choice seats in the House of Delegates, but for the first time in years, the state Senate is in the hands of pro-choice leadership!
This is a great victory—but our work is far from over. Look for information in the coming weeks about the 2008 legislative session in Richmond, set to begin on January 9, and make plans now to attend Pro-Choice Lobby Day on January 31.
Virginians have rejected the out of touch policies of anti-choice lawmakers in Richmond. Now it’s time to get down to the business of expanding access to reproductive health services for the women of Virginia—and we’ll need your help to do it!
