NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia PAC Endorses Delegate David Marsden for State Senate

Modified: 12/09/2009

NARAL PRO-CHOICE VIRGINIA PAC ANNOUNCES

ENDORSEMENT OF DELEGATE DAVID MARSDEN FOR STATE SENATE

Endorsement highlights organization’s dedication to building a pro-choice majority in the Virginia State Legislature

(Alexandria, VA) – Today, NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia PAC, the commonwealth’s leading advocate for personal privacy and a woman’s right to choose, announced its endorsement of Delegate David Marsden for State Senate District 37. Delegate Marsden is being challenged by anti-choice, 'abstinence-only' advocate Stephen M. Hunt.

Since 2005, Delegate Marsden has been a strong advocate for reproductive justice, earning a 100% score from NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia's legislative scorecard for refusing to support bills that would limit access to abortion.

“Voters in House District 41 have been fortunate to have had Delegate Marsden representing their interests in Richmond, and protecting their reproductive rights at the state level.  We now have the opportunity to support pro-choice and pro-prevention Delegate Marsden in this special election cycle for state senate. We applaud his voting record of attempting to secure access to reproductive healthcare for all Virginians,” said Tarina Keene, Executive Director of NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia.

Delegate Marsden is a pro-choice leader who will support measures to prevent unintended pregnancies and reduce the need for abortion, as well as support evidence-based sex education – values the residents of the 37th Senate district support. As State Senator, Delegate Marsden will be able to continue his pro-choice work.

Opponent Stephen Hunt holds an opposite record, as he served as an 'abstinence-only' speaker, and was president and chair of the board of directors for Assist Pregnancy Center, which tells women facing unintended pregnancies medically inaccurate information about birth control, breast cancer, and sexually transmitted infections.

"NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia is proud to endorse Delegate David Marsden. We look forward to continuing to work with him as our new state senator," Keene added.

NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia supports candidates who are dedicated to family planning, preventing unintended pregnancy, and increasing access to reproductive healthcare for women and families in the Commonwealth.  The organization’s powerful statewide network of activists will mobilize pro-choice voters throughout Virginia to help elect Delegate Marsden for State Senate.
